I had a wonderful and historic meeting at the home of Alhaji Tanko Yakasai.
I met with Alhaji Tank Yakasai, a 96 year old Elder Statesman, founding member of Arewa Consultative Forum, a Marxist by ideology and human rights activist and his two sons Dr. Umar Tanko Yakasai ( A medical doctor and former Senate President of the National Association of Nigerian Student’s (NANS) ) and Mr. Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai President northern young professionals.
I have known Dr. Umar Tanko Yakasia since 1998 when he was elected as the Senate President of the National Association of Nigerian Student’s (NANS) at the NANS national convention that took place at the University of Ibadan while I was a student Senator and President of Lagos State University Student’s Union Government (LASUSUG).
Dr. Umar Tanko Yakasia is a deep believer, very strong and sincere loyalist of former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. He believes strongly in one Nigeria.
Dr Umar Yakasai and I were very instrumental to the unification of the two factions of NANS to form one United NANS and we were also some of the student’s Generals in charge of the foot soldier that fought in line with notable activists like Chief Gani Fawehimi, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Barr. Aka-Alao Bashorun, Dr. Beko Ransome-kuti, Dr. Taiye Solarin, Barr. Shina Ogunlana, Barr. Ayo Obe, Barr. Olisa Agbakoba, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, Pa. Ayo Fasanmi, Pa. Ayo Opadokun, Admiral Ndubusi Kanu, Pa Fred Agbeyigbe, Dr. Joe Odumaki, Barr. Abiola Akiode-Afolabi, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Pa Adekunle Ajashin, Pa Alfred Rewani, Barr. Wahab Shittu, Senator Shehu Sani, Alhaji Balarabe Musa and many more pro-democracy activist and freedom fighters that fought against and forced out the military government to enthrone democracy in Nigeria in 1999.
Alhaji Tanko Yakasia welcomed me warmly into his home and treated me like one of his sons.
It was time well spent as he recounted his life story within the history of Nigeria; and his vision for a better Nigeria under the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Presidency.
In his words “After seeing what Bola Tinubu had done in Lagos State, especially sand filling of the bar-beach now called Eko Atlantic City and so many other projects that he did when he was the executive governor of Lagos State, I know Asiwaju will do much better for this country Nigeria”
