
INTERVENTION: CDM Intimates Nigerian Youths On Role To Play Towards The Emergence Of A New Nigeria.
As the process of electing new helmsmen that would be in charge of the socio-economic affairs of Nigeria come 2023 is fast approaching, active youths have started sensitising ‘other’ youths about the need to get involved in politics.
A youth vanguard in Lagos advocating for youth involvement in politics, Comrade Decorum Movement (CDM), at a seminar and award ceremony organised by the movement intimates Nigerians youths the consequences of their actions and inactions in politics if they really wanted a new Nigeria to emerge in their lifetime.
The lead visioner of CDM Comrade Joshua Olakunle in an interview with newsconnectonline.com.ng at the event said
“2023 is a critical year in this country, hence we are using this event to awaken the youth to get involve in politics at every level. Not only that their voices would be heard but also because their votes would also count”. He said
He further said
“The end result of this event is for every participants to have the mind set that no matter your profession, no matter where you come from, no matter your state of residence or state of origin, you can always participate in every politics.
“Even at the local level, you can be an instrument of change in your community and the change starts with us”. Joshua said.
One of the guest speaker Mayowa Ajibodu the founder of Shun foundation in an interview with our reporter said
“My advice for youths is not join politics and take a position immediately. It starts from the grassroots.
“You don’t need to go and occupy a position yet. Start somewhere, join them be making the influence with time people would see the value you are adding, they will see the impact you are making.
“Somebody somewhere may come to support you. We can see that playing out already in today’s politics. Somebody buying form for somebody. Those beneficiaries are those people adding values in their communities. Before you go in that space and say you want to compete for power, start somewhere, take it gradually and go from there.
“Rather than complaining, we want the youth to contribute to the socio-development of the nation”. Mayowa asserted.
Another speaker Dr Bob Ekat in an interview with newsconnectonline.com.ng after his keynote speech reiterated the social vices he wanted the youth to eschew as an effort in making a new and befitting Nigeria to emerge. Some of which include drug abuse, thuggery, dishonesty etc.
Robert said the youths should be allowed to express their idealism for a new Nigeria because they have resourceful talents inherent in them.
“The youths have a lot to contribute to Nigeria. I did mention that they need to eschew many bad practices like drug abuse, thuggery and the rest.
“They need to be allowed to express their idealism for a new Nigeria, they need to be hardworking.
“Of course we know that Nigerians youths are enterprising, they should get involve in politics get involve in policy formation. If we can correct the leadership problem in Nigeria, every other things will fall in place for the youths.
He said leaders who don’t care about the youth, leaders who can’t market the brand Nigeria can’t encourage youths to join politics. However, The idea is if youth are involved, they will be able to spot passionate people who they can put into position of authority.
“Bank W contested the last time and lost. He is coming out again to contest, that is the spirit, we want the youths to get involved so they can actually choose the leaders whom they trust can sell Nigeria. Those leaders whose personal interest would overide the larger interest of Nigerians should not be voted for by the youths.
A tech advocate for ‘SHUN’ Michael Olamilekan Peter in an interview with our reporter said youths leaving this shores for a greener pasture isn’t the best idea he reeled out programs for the youth in the tech spaces and way forward.
“I believe there a lot of opportunities in the tech industry. A lot of ideas that need to be expressed. There are so many ideas we need to come up with for then youths. Youths leaving the country for greener pastures isn’t the solution. Where there is a problem, there is always a solution.
“I just came up with the idea that you can control your generator with your voice, you can be able to monitor the whole of your house from the outside. I am a youth too. There are a lot of problems. There are solutions to these problems and technology can be used to solve all these problems.
“We are coming up with a training platform some weeks to come. It is called ‘Tech Edge Africa’. We want to review tech giants in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. We want to bring up the youth, train them in all these technologies, so that those with beautiful ideas emerge and see themselves as a solution provider.
The Vice chairman of Ikorodu local government Princess Folashade Olabanji Oba while fielding her response to our report about the low turn out of youths at the great event said one thing is to have massive numbers of youths another thing is to identify quality ones amongst them.
“It is about the quality of people, the quality of people I have been listening to since morning shows Nigeria is going to greater heights. I am a great optimist, I know Nigeria is going to be better. After listening to one of the speakers, his speech lifted my spirit.
“I want to believe there are leaders today and tomorrow. When you take care of today, tomorrow takes care of itself.
The leader of Lagos Island LCDA honourable Olakunle William who was also an awardee and the recipient of the awardee to the state governor said;
“My advise to the youth is that whatever they do, they should do it with diligence and honesty so we can get a better Nigeria we all dream of. The award honestly is an honour, privilege, it is a call for service to do more.
Comrade Joshua said 20 people were awarded. Meanwhile 8 of them from the private cooperate sector.
He said “They have influenced the youths while 12 are from public sector. Irrespective of their party and offices, they have influenced lives positively and this is why they are getting this award.
Honourable Ishola Adewale Royal
Aspirant Lagos state House of Assembly Lagos Island constituency 2 in an interview with newsconnectonline.com.ng said Today’s event is one of the inspiration of a movement. Some arms of the government deserve commendation for their good job not all of them are inactive and dormant hence the reason the award session was factored into the program.
“A big way to say thank you for their efforts and for them to continue whatever they have been doing positively that is how the award session had come in”. Ishola asserted
Aro Daniel a man living with disability, who was also a participant at the event gave us a resounding poem in solidarity.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, Gbajabiamila were among the recipient of award.
