LAGOS PCMs TOLD TO RESPECT CUSTOMS OF HOST COMMUNITIES IN TRADITIONAL LECTURE
Prospective Corps Members in the orientation course at NYSC Lagos Camp in Iyana-Ipaja have been advised to respect the customs and traditions of their host communities during the service year.
This message was passed to them during the traditional lecture which was delivered by an official of the scheme, Mr Olulayo Olutola.
According to Mr Olutola, the indigenous inhabitants of Lagos are; Awori and Egun, Akos, Ijebu and Eko-Awori, settlers along the coastline and riverine areas of the State. He said the indigenous people have their customs and traditions which must be respected and that if the corps members are to enjoy the service year, they must learn to co-exist with the indigents, respecting their traditions.
Stating the critical beliefs and practices in Lagos and other Yoruba States, he said Oro is a common practice notable among Ikorodu, Epe and Agege areas of the State, warning that corps members must always stay indoor during the festival.
He noted that the indigents also believe in the potency of charms and therefore, must avoid trouble-fomenting agents who use little issues to cause irreparable and fetish losses.
Warning the male corps members, he said they must by all means avoid oversocialization and sexual relationship with married women whose husbands may invoke Màagùn(Thunderbolt) on their perceived ‘enemies.’
