NIGERIANS MUST TAKE INTELLIGENCE GATHERING AS CHALLENGE – AIG HAKEEM ODUMOSU
By Oki Samson
Nigerians have been tasked to take up the role of intelligence gathering as a way to assist various security agencies in the prevention and detection of crimes. The former Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Operations at the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, AIG Hakeem Olusegun Odumosu (retd) made this important note at the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) Annual Conference and Awards.
He encouraged Nigerians on the need to participate in intelligence gathering as a way to key into the security architecture of the country stating that everything shouldn’t be left in the hands of the security agencies.
‘The retired but not tired’ AIG Odumosu said: ‘Members of the public need to give information to security agencies for them to work better and more proactive. Intelligence gathering is low because many people are not aware of it. What we need to do is to sensitize members of the public on the importance of intelligence gathering. Every member of the public is an intelligent agent as long as you give information to security agencies for them to work.’
‘Intelligence gathering must be what every Nigerian must take as challenge and watch out to contribute. We need to change the mindset so that they will be part and parcel of the security architecture of Nigeria. Then the agencies will work harder and work better’ emphasized the former Commissioner of Police in Lagos.
In the same vein, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Badinson Security Services, Mr. Matthew Ibadin advocated for an inter-agency academy that would further cement a harmonious relationship that would promote stronger cohesion among the security agencies. He commended NAOSNP for their ingenuity to have organised such a far-reaching security conference, adding that the theme was apt and timely considering the security problems the country has been contending with in recent times.
