Gani Fawehinmi Lives, As Femi Falana is usually heard everywhere To Hitting The Nail rightfully On The Top, wherever there is any slight of Anti-people, violation of Human Rights in Nigeria -Kunle Adegoke
Nigeria has been generally urged to do things right at the Judicial system to make the Laws work for the people for the benefit of all asundry, just like late Chief Gani Fawehinmi had stood for something in confronting the existing power, through fighting for the rights of Human persons.
Meanwhile, the current Leaders in Nigeria have not been friendly with me, to the extent that I do not want to be an Advocate of the flaws in this era of our judicial system.
This was revealed recently, during the 21st Chief Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture 2025,held at the Airport Hotel Ikeja.
Speaking at the Lecture, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Lamido Sanusi expressed, that Nigeria needs more and more of such a Lawyer to put things straight without being bought by any government of the day, because Chief Gani Fawehinmi was a beacon of light to Nigeria Rule of Laws.
Saying further that is disheartening to the people of the nation as there is a little proper communication around this to address the flaws of the current administration.
In his remarks, The Chairman planning committee of the Fawehinmism 2025 Annual Lecture, Barr. Kunle Adegoke (S. A. N.) said 21 years of the memory of late Chief Gani Fawehinmi has never been taken for granted by the Nigeria Lawyers, because there is no event organized anywhere in the country that you will not find respected dignitaries represented at the event, for he had made a huge impact so far to fight selflessly for the rights of Human persons.
However, a lot of Nigeria Lawyers have secretly put on his shoes, and I will not say or delmine what Mr. Femi Falana is achieving today on any policy issues, as at on any major case or developments where there is violation of Human Rights that you will not hear about Feminism Falana fighting the threat of the anti- people.
Of which there are young lawyers who are working so hard in treading Gani Fawehinmi’s path.
We cannot deny the credit in the process, especially our Human Rights Lawyers.
Unfortunately, Gani Fawehinmi died on my 40th birthday and it became a big loss to the Law profession and gloomy into my heart that he died that day, for he was my mentor, Leader, and everything to think of in the same field.
Therefore,” celebrating him is a duty we must always do, because this is an opportunity to learn from his wealth of knowledge.”
And of course, we cannot use the status of Gani Fawehinmi to judge others, because there were some names in the legal profession which were secretly working hard from the background and we did not hear about them.
Also speaking with Cfame News Correspondent at the Lecture, Mr. Monday Ubani maintained that there is still hope for Nigeria at the Judiciary, especially when we get the right calibre of Leadership in the country to rightfully lead the way.
While he advised the members of the Nigeria Judiciary further, to treat everyone equally in the justice system, and must reason together not to look at some certain status or pockets, before giving the absolute justice.
As this justice is fundamental, so both the Rich and poor deserve it.
He added, that it is sad in Nigeria today, as the people are not relying on the judiciary again because it is still struggling to make it’s Mark in the legal environment.
For in Nigeria judiciary, the Richer you are the richer your justice are.
During her address, the member of the Nigeria Bar Association, (NBA) Ikeja Branch, the Legal practitioner, Mrs. Fausat Bakare said it is important for members of the judiciary to imbibe the selfless idea of Chief Gani Fawehinmi to address the societal problems without a distortion.
She described him as a brave Lawyer who stood for the right values, as a legal legend that used the instruments of the Laws to impact the society. Having believed so much in societal justice to fight for the people, even at his expense of his life.
……in other words, in Nigeria today, people who want to come out and do things right do not have any backing to move on.
She thereby urged every Nigerian irrespective of place of work and home, to ensure that they do things right and make things work for all.
With this, people will share your vision. She urged.
